This magnetic, lush beach side Retreat is under the umbrella of the Ayurveda Pharmacy and Hospital originally established by the Maharaja of Cochin, his Highness King Rama Varma XV, in 1921. He wished to preserve the legacy of Keralan Ayurveda, deeply rooted in the classic Ashtanga Hridaya, for the good of his people and the health of the future generations.

The organic medicines, massage oils, treatments and diet require some preparation. The doctors give instructions, I share my experiential knowledge with you. This helps you be prepared for many procedures which make no sense to a westerner.

Generally speaking there are three main seasons in Kerala, India.

Peak: October to February. We pay higher tariffs to enjoy the glorious weather and the calm blue sea. Humidity is at its lowest.

Summer: March to May. Temperatures can scale up to 100 degree Fahrenheit / 40 degrees Celsius. Humidity levels rise as the monsoon season approaches but temperatures fall by mid-June and stay that way till end of the year.

Monsoon: June/July to September. This is the recommended season to embark on a Panchakarma Cleanse. Some may find it muggy due to humidity but the pores open up better to receive the organic medicines. Thunderstorms and heavy rain showers are intermittent and dramatic, with a wild beauty of their own.

Please know that Kerala is ravishing and verdant in every season due to the abundance of water bodies and its fertile, black soil. No matter how hot it gets, it is always pleasant under a coconut tree by the beach.
